Creating Avatar Movie Wallpaper

Here is an interesting tutorial how to create Avatar movie wallpaper. A lot of people were impressed by watching this movie and I’m not an exception. I am insanely obsessed with it. That’s why I decided to make the tutorial how to create wallpaper on this great movie. In the beginning you should create a new document sized 1900х1200 pixels and fill it with black color. Then I would like to bring the picture one of the heroes to our canvas. You can find different pictures on Google Images or feel free to use mine . Open up the picture and using Ctrl+C copy it , then go back to the main canvas and press Ctrl+V to paste copied fragment. Move this fragment to right lower corner. As you can see the picture less then canvas, in this way press Ctrl+T and hold Shift button to enlarge the picture pro rata. The result should look as mine: After increasing the image sharpness has become worse. We can fix this problem by duplicating current layer with Ctrl+J and Filter > Other > High Pass with next parameters: After that change layer mode to Overlay and you will get the next result: Ok, continue our tutorial. Merge current layer with previous and move new layer to the right as shown on my screenshot below. Then to change color balance a little bit to get the picture with the same hue as on advertising posters apply Image > Adjustments > Layers with similar settings to these: The result should be next: Ok, move to the next step. We have to make eyes color more bright and contrasting, to add accent on the picture. For this effect apply Polygonal Lasso Tool and create selection as on my picture below: Holding Shift button select the second pupil of the eye area. After that use Select > Modify > Feather to feather selection about 2 pixels. Then apply Image > Adjustments > Color Balance with similar settings to these: You can see the result below: Remove the selection with Ctrl+D . Looks good, isn’t it? Then create a new one layer, select the Brush Tool and a soft round brush about 400 pixels to hide image borders like on my picture you can see below: Move to the next step. After that we need to add the text. Select the Horizontal Type Tool and write out the name of the film with different color, it doesn’t matter. The set up next text presets for this text line: The result should be next: In the above image I’ve used Papyrus as my font of choice. Actually, it is commercial, but if you don’t have it, you can easily find a good alternative. Ok, after that apply Outer Glow , Bevel and Emboss , Contour and Gradient Overlay layer styles to this layer: Now we have something like this: And the last one thing that we have to do to add glowing balls on the background. How we can do this? Ok, I will show you the easer way. Select the Brush Tool and a hard round brush about 15 pixels. Then click the button ‘Toggle the Brushes palette’ on the Options Bar to open brush presets window or by choosing Window > Brushes . Here we can see a couple of presets. Now, set up the following presets for current brush: After that add a few strokes to the background on the new layer using color of #c9eaff . Duplicate this layer with Ctrl+J and apply Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur with similar settings to these: Merge current layer with previous. After that apply Outer Glow layer style to new received layer. The result should be next: Ok, to finish off the tutorial create new layer and fill the left upper corner with black to transparent gradient. Ok, we are done! Enjoy your own cool looking wallpapers! 1024

Realistic View Water Reflection

Here I’m going to learn how to easily add a realistic water reflection to your picture. Here is the photo that I’ll be working with throughout this tutorial: Also you can use your own pictures or find some appropriate pictures thru the Google Images. Ok, now I will explain you how to make the right reflection. In the beginning you should select the part of image what is above the water, then duplicate it and flip vertical. Then we will process copied part of image with some filters to get realistic view water reflection. Ok, using the Polygonal Lasso Tool create selection as was shown on my picture, which you can see below: After that press Ctrl+J to copy selected part of image on the new layer. After that use Edit > Transform > Flip Vertical to flip new copied layer vertical and move it down as on picture below. As you can see the shoreline is rough, that’s why we need to do some correction with it. Use the Eraser Tool to correct it a little bit. But pay your attention that we have some small island from the right side. Don’t remove it from the copied layer. Use the Polygonal Lasso Tool to select this island and press Ctrl+Shift+J to cut selected part of image on the new layer. Now, move it a little bit down and apply Edit > Transform > Warp . Merge this layer with previous again. Before we move to the next step, you need to make displacement map to create the water ripple effect. So, create a new document with the same size. Press D to reset Foreground and Background colors (Foreground color will be black and Background color will be white). Then fill canvas with white color. After that apply Filter > Sketch > Halftone Pattern : Now you have something like this: Save this document as Lines.psd and close it. Go back to our main document and select current layer with Select > Load Selection . After that apply Filter > Distort > Ripple : You can see the result on the picture below: Then apply Filter > Distort > Displace : Click OK in the top right corner of the dialog box, and Photoshop will ask you which file you want to use as your displacement map. Choose the file that you just saved a moment ago ( Lines.psd ). Now, press Ctrl+T to reduce the height of our reflection and press Enter . Remove selection with Ctrl+D . After that to make reflection at the bottom of the picture more transparent apply Quick Mask Mode with gradient as below: Then go back to Standard Mode . Now we have some selected area, press Delete to clear image in it. Remove selection with Ctrl+D and set up layer opacity to 50%. After that apply Filter > Blur > Motion Blur with similar settings to these: The result should be next: And the last one thing that we should add is ripples. For this effect create a new layer and add a few brush strokes with Brush Tool using white color. After that set up foreground color as #022149 and add more brush strokes on the same layer with this color. After that apply Filter > Blur > Motion Blur : Change layer mode to Soft Light and you will get the final result: On the picture below you can see the final result! I’m sorry but I’m done for now. Please feel free to experiment and you will get the best results!

After that select some appropriate colors, for example colors of #449224 , #b5f716 and drag a radial gradient as on my picture you can see below. After that I would like to add some pattern to the background. Get out the Custom Shape Tool from the Photoshop tools and find the shape from the standard shapes gallery. What you can see on the picture below. Drag it onto your canvas like I’ve done in the below screenshot, then set up opacity to 70% for this layer. Now, I would like to make a little accent in card centre. For this create a new layer, then select the Elliptical Marquee Tool to create round selection as on my picture below and fill it with color of #d7ff00 . Remove selection with Select > Deselect and apply Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur . Ok, now we received next effect: Time to add the numbers. After that rasterize this text layer with Layer > Rasterize > Type and apply Edit > Transform > Free Transform to rotate the number, then use Edit > Transform > Distort to bring it in the same projection as on my picture below. Duplicate layer with Ctrl+J and move lower layer a little bit down and right. Ok, after that use the Polygonal Lasso Tool to connect the upper part of the number with its projection. Now, change Burn Tool to Dodge Tool (Brush: 150 px, Range: Highlights, Exposure: 50%) and add a little bit bright glare inside of selected area. Now, create another one selection and use Dodge Tool and Burn Tool again to make the same effect. Process all sides of the number. Ok, remove selection with Ctrl+D , move to the layer above and use the Burn Tool (Brush: 150 px, Range: Shadow, Exposure: 20%) to add a little gradient to this upper layer. And the one last thing that we need to do to add the glare to the number. Use the Select > Load Selection to make selection of the current layer, then press Alt+Shift and cut off unnecessary part of selection with Elliptical Marquee Tool . Fill selected area with white to transparent gradient. Remove selection with Ctrl+D and merge all layers of number in one. Then apply the Outer Glow layer style to the new layer.
